~A POEM FOR THE NEW YEAR

Good friends, the old year's done
And bells ring the new one in,
This is my wish for you
As the longer days begin.

To all good friends, good cheer!
I pray that the year may bring,
With plenty and with peace,
Some unexpected thing.

The sun swings up from the south
With a yearful of days for you,
Who knows but in one of them
Is your wish come true?

*Since Driscoll mentions the days getting longer at the turn of the year, I suppose she was writing from somewhere in the southern hemisphere (or addressing people who live there) ☺.
